These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the ExpenseZen mobile application ("App"), website, and any related services provided by ExpenseZen ("we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these Terms, you may not access or use the App. You must be at least 13 years old to use ExpenseZen.

2. Description of Service

ExpenseZen is a mobile application and web service that allows users to scan, store, and manage receipts using their device's camera and AI-powered text recognition. The App provides features including:

  • Receipt scanning and AI-powered data extraction
  • Automatic categorization and organization
  • Export functionality (CSV, Excel, PDF)
  • Expense tracking and analytics
  • Cloud backup and synchronization
  • Email receipt processing
  • Project and client tracking

3. User Accounts and Registration

You may use the App as a guest user or create an account. When creating an account, you must provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access
  • Ensuring your contact information is current and accurate

4. Subscription and Payment Terms

The App offers both free and premium subscription tiers:

  • Free Plan: Limited to 20 smart scans per month with basic features
  • Premium Monthly: $4.99/month with unlimited scans and advanced features
  • Premium Annual: $39.99/year (save 20%) with unlimited scans and advanced features
Premium subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You may cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings or account settings.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App or its systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App's functionality
  • Upload or transmit malicious code or content
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Abuse or exploit the free tier or trial periods
  • Share your account credentials with others

6. Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and use of your personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the App, you consent to our collection and use of your information as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Intellectual Property

The App and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by ExpenseZen and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of any content you upload to the App, but grant us a license to use it to provide our services.

8. AI Recognition and Data Accuracy

ExpenseZen uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to extract information from receipts and documents. Please note the following important disclaimers:

  • AI recognition is not 100% accurate and may contain errors
  • You are ultimately responsible for verifying the accuracy of all extracted data
  • We strongly recommend reviewing all AI-extracted information before saving or using it for financial purposes
  • The AI may misinterpret text, amounts, dates, or other information from receipts
  • You should always verify critical information such as amounts, dates, and merchant names
  • We are not liable for any financial decisions made based on potentially inaccurate AI-extracted data
  • The AI's performance may vary based on receipt quality, format, and language

9. Email Receipt Processing

If you use our email receipt processing feature:

  • You authorize us to access and process emails sent to your ExpenseZen email address
  • We will only process receipt-related emails
  • The same AI accuracy disclaimers apply to email-processed receipts
  • You should not forward sensitive personal information unrelated to receipts

10. Disclaimers and Limitations

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • The App will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • AI-extracted data will be accurate or complete
  • The App will meet your specific requirements
  • Any errors will be corrected

11. Limitation of Liability

IN NO EVENT SHALL EXPENSEZEN BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION:

  • Loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
  • Damages resulting from your use of or inability to use the App
  • Damages resulting from inaccurate AI-extracted data
  • Damages from unauthorized access to your data
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS.

12. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the App immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach the Terms. Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the App will cease immediately
  • You may lose access to your data unless you export it beforehand
  • We may delete your data according to our retention policy

13. Refund Policy

Refunds are handled according to the policies of the platform through which you purchased:

  • Google Play: Subject to Google Play's refund policy
  • Direct purchases: Contact us within 14 days for refund requests

14. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will provide at least 30 days notice prior to any new terms taking effect. What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which ExpenseZen operates, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding arbitration.
